Customizing My Website Theme

Customizing my website theme helped me make The Thrifty Dish more organized and easier for visitors to use. Since my website focuses on affordable, healthy meals, I wanted the design to feel welcoming and make it easy for people to find recipes, grocery tips, and other helpful information.

Widgets and How They Improve My Website

I had trouble figuring out on WordPress, so I was not able to implement them. I have been struggling with adding them for a couple hours and I dont believe my theme supports them. I keep having a problem where when I choose a location for the widget it says not found. However, I think the Search, Recent Posts, and Categories widgets would be the most helpful for The Thrifty Dish because they would make it easier for visitors to find recipes and budget-friendly food tips. I would like to learn how to add these features as I continue working on my website.

Other Features I Customized

I also worked on customizing other parts of my website to make it more useful and visually appealing.

Navigation menu: I organized my menu so visitors can access important pages, including Home, Posts, About, and Contact. I also included links to some of my blog posts and an external website related to my topic. This helps visitors move around the website without getting confused.

Categories and tags: I used categories to organize my content and tags to describe specific topics. This will become more helpful as I add more recipes, grocery tips, and personal food experiences.

Benefits of Scheduling a Website Design Change

Scheduling a design change can be helpful for several reasons.

Preparing for special occasions: I could schedule a design update for the holidays or the beginning of a new year. For example, I could feature budget-friendly holiday recipes when people are planning meals for their families.

Saving time: Scheduling changes ahead of time allows me to prepare the design before I need it. This means I would not have to rush to update my website at the last minute.

Keeping content relevant: I could plan design changes around seasonal ingredients or new content. For example, I could highlight affordable summer meals when those ingredients are available.

Conclusion

Customizing my website theme helped me understand how design affects the way people use a website. I learned that features such as widgets, navigation menus, categories, and post layouts can make a website easier to explore. As I continue building The Thrifty Dish, I want to keep improving the design so visitors can find affordable, healthy food ideas without feeling overwhelmed.
